Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms cover Fair Puzzles: Mysteries, a puzzle game for iPhone and Android phones (“the app”), and this website. They are an agreement between you and the author who publishes them under the pen name Sam Ashford (“we”, “us”).
By installing the app or using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Your licence to use the app
The app is licensed to you, not sold. We give you a personal, non-exclusive licence, which you cannot transfer, to install the app and play it on phones that you own or control, for your own enjoyment and not for business, in the ways the App Store or Google Play allows.
Please do not:
- copy, resell, rent or redistribute the app or any part of it;
- publish its cases, text, pictures or icons anywhere else;
- take the app apart or reverse-engineer it, except where the law gives you that right;
- get around the purchase system or unlock packs you have not bought.
2. Free cases and purchases
Ten cases are free. The other cases come in packs of 100, and each pack can be unlocked with a one-time purchase. There are no subscriptions.
“Unlock all packs” is a single one-time purchase that unlocks every pack in the app, including packs added in later app updates.
Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play. The store takes the payment, and the store's own terms apply to it. The price is shown before you buy; prices can differ from country to country and may change over time.
A purchase belongs to the store account that made it. If you reinstall the app or move to a new phone, use Restore purchases in the app with the same store account to get your packs back. A purchase made on the App Store does not carry over to Google Play, or the other way round, because the app has no accounts of its own.
3. Refunds
Refunds are handled through the store that took your payment, under its rules and the law where you live. We do not take payments ourselves. To ask for a refund, use Apple's or Google's refund request.
If something you bought is not working, or a refund request has not settled the matter, please write to us and we will do our best to help.
4. Your progress
Your progress is saved only on your phone. We keep no copy, so we cannot bring it back if the app is deleted or the phone is lost. Reset progress in Settings clears your progress and keeps your purchases. Our Privacy Policy says more.
5. The content is fiction
The cases are fiction. Their people, places and events are invented, and any likeness to real people, living or dead, or to real events is a coincidence.
Some packs tell stories about crimes such as murder, poisoning, theft and blackmail. They do so in words only; nothing is shown.
The puzzles are generated and checked by code. The story text and the object icons are AI-generated and reviewed by the author.
6. Who owns what
The app, its cases, text, pictures and icons, the books and their covers, and this website belong to us or are used by us under licence, and are protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you no rights in them beyond the licence in section 1.
The fonts are used under the SIL Open Font Licence. Their licences are in the app under Settings → Credits and licences, and on this site.
7. This website
This website is here to tell you about the app and the books. We try to keep it accurate and up to date. Links to Amazon, the App Store or Google Play take you to sites we do not run and are not responsible for.
8. No warranty
We take care over the app: every case is checked by code to have exactly one solution. Even so, the app and this website are provided “as is”. We do not promise that they will always be available, that they are free of mistakes, or that they will work on every phone.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law of your country gives you as a consumer and that cannot be signed away.
9. Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data or progress, that comes from using the app or this website. As far as the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for purchases in the app.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Updates and availability
We may update the app and its content, for example to correct a mistake in a case or to add a pack. We may also stop offering the app. The app works offline and does not depend on any server of ours.
11. The app stores
These terms are between you and us. Apple and Google are not parties to them and are not responsible for the app or its content. Your use of the App Store or Google Play is covered by that store's own terms.
12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example when the app changes. The new version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top. If you keep using the app after that, the new terms apply.
13. Governing law
[Governing law and where disputes are heard: not yet filled in.]
Whatever is written here, it does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
