Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This is the privacy policy of Fair Puzzles: Mysteries, a puzzle game for iPhone and Android phones (“the app”), and of this website.
The short version
This app does not collect, store or share any personal data. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own privacy policies. The app itself stores your progress, and which packs you have unlocked, only on your device.
1. Who we are
The app and this website are published by an independent author and developer who writes under the pen name Sam Ashford. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean that person.
2. What the app collects
Nothing. The app does not collect any information about you, and we run no server for it.
- There are no accounts and nothing to sign in to.
- There are no ads.
- There are no analytics and no tracking tools of any kind.
- The app does not ask for your name, your email address, your contacts, your location, your photos, your camera or your microphone.
The game works offline: every case comes inside the app. The only service the app talks to is the store you got it from, the App Store or Google Play, to show prices, to make a purchase, and to check or restore what you have bought. It does not connect to us or to anyone else.
3. Purchases and the app stores
Packs of cases are sold through Apple's or Google's in-app purchase system. Apple or Google takes the payment and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy, which you can read on its website. We never see your name, your card or your store account.
The store tells the app on your phone which packs have been bought, and the app keeps that list on your phone so the packs stay unlocked.
Like every developer, we receive sales reports from the stores so that we can do our accounts. They say which pack was sold, when, at what price and in which country or region, with an order number. They do not include your name, your email address or your payment details.
If you have chosen, in your phone's settings, to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may show us crash reports and usage figures for the app that do not identify you. That sharing is run by Apple or Google and controlled by your phone's settings, not by the app.
4. What is stored on your device
The app saves a few things in its own storage on your phone so that you can carry on where you left off:
- your progress in each case: where you placed people, the squares you marked, whether the case is solved, whether you earned a star, your best time, the time taken so far and the hints you used;
- which packs you have unlocked;
- your language, if you chose one in Settings.
The app does not send any of this anywhere. We cannot see it, and we keep no copy.
You can clear your progress at any time with Settings → Reset progress; your purchases are kept. Deleting the app removes everything it saved on the phone. Your purchases belong to your App Store or Google Play account, and Restore purchases brings them back.
If you use your phone's own backup, such as iCloud Backup or Google's backup on Android, the phone may include the app's saved data in that backup. Backups are run by Apple or Google under your account and their policies. We have no access to them.
5. Children
The app is a puzzle game made for adults and is not aimed at children. Its stories mention crimes such as theft or murder in words only; nothing is shown.
Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children.
6. This website
This website is a small set of plain pages.
- It sets no cookies and saves nothing in your browser's storage.
- It has no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no forms.
- Its fonts and pictures come from the site itself. The pages load nothing from other companies' servers.
Like almost every website, it is kept on the computers of a hosting company. The host may keep ordinary server logs for security and to keep the service running: typically your IP address, the date and time, the page you asked for, and the type of browser. We do not use these logs to identify visitors or to follow them around the web.
Links from this site to Amazon, the App Store or Google Play take you to those companies' sites, which have their own privacy policies.
7. If you write to us
If you send us an email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share your message.
8. Your choices and rights
Since we hold no personal data from the app or from this website, there is normally nothing for us to show you, correct or delete. Your progress is on your own phone, and you can clear it yourself as described in section 4.
If you have written to us, you can ask us to delete your messages. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app or this website changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the date at the top. The current policy is always at this address.
